The “Mel-vibe” tamping attachment is designed for connection to excavators or backhoes for track maintenance applications. The “Mel-vibe” utilises impulse force, downward pressure and vibration to perform its task via four tungsten carbide tamper Tyne’s. Two pairs of Tyne’s are connected by hydraulic cylinders to enable compaction of ballast under rail sleepers. Vibration and impulse force is generated by a hydraulic motor coupled with an eccentric mass (cam) inside housing. The four rubber mounts isolate the vibration from the tamping Tyne’s to the top frame and carrier.
