Ballast Broom

The Melrose Ballast Broom is a boom mounted excavator attachment suited for use with 4 – 14 tonne class hi-rail machines. It is designed to sweep ballast away from the foot of rail and features numerous adjustments allowing it to be use with all standard rail sizes. Sweeping the ballast from the rail is often required after the rail has been flooded with ballast or for maintenance access to the rail clips fastening the rail to sleepers.

The standard configuration is a single broom head with two brushes, which can clean ballast from both sides of a single rail. Custom configurations can be supplied with dual broom heads for cleaning two rail lines simultaneously in either standard or broad gauge.

An optional stand is available.
